Benjamin Netanyahu is reportedly calling Donald Trump every day to push for a nuclear strike on Iran, aimed at a mountain in a province home to more than 5 million people.
Tucker Carlson broke the claim Sunday night, the Wall Street Journal says America’s Gulf allies are already bracing for a US bombardment, and Trump could make the call within days.
The target is Pickaxe Mountain, next to Iran’s Natanz nuclear complex and so far untouched in this war. Israeli intelligence claims Iran restarted uranium enrichment in tunnels under roughly 300 feet of granite, which Tehran denies.
No conventional American bomb can dig that deep. So the people pushing this plan have settled on the one weapon that can.
On October 15, Trump told Newsmax he wouldn’t use nuclear weapons. On Saturday at Mar-a-Lago, he named Pickaxe Mountain as a site the US still has to “take care of” and said it could be done in 10 minutes.
Netanyahu’s urgency is easy to explain. Last week’s Israeli election left him short of the 61 Knesset seats he needs to govern, and Carlson says only Trump stepping into Israeli coalition talks can save him.
Losing office means investigations and maybe a cell. The Financial Times reported he planned new strikes in October and Trump held him off until after the midterms.
A nuclear blast at Pickaxe wouldn’t stay at Pickaxe. Ryan Costello of the National Iranian American Council warns the fallout could drift hundreds of miles into major cities, depending on the wind.
Carlson says it could contaminate Gulf waters that roughly 100 million people depend on to drink. And Costello asks whether Vladimir Putin would hold back in Ukraine once Trump went first.
The neighbors aren’t waiting around. According to the Journal, Qatar and the UAE have run security drills at their airports, and officials told guests at a big energy conference in Abu Dhabi to cut their trips short.
Sen. Chris Murphy sat through a classified briefing on the post-election war plan last week. “Their plan is insane,” he said, days before Carlson’s report.
Americans vote today, and Trump’s reported deadline is Saturday.
